On May,2006, Kevin and Naomi Scantlan took a vision trip with Buckner Orphan Care International
representing the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Missouri. Their goal was to see the work being
done by Buckner in Kenya and see how the CBF of MO's goal of building a Community Developmental Center
would work. They traveled to Busia on the Ugandan border, to the slums of Nairobi, and to Marigat,
5 hours north of Nairobi. Here's a link to an article that Naomi wrote about the trip:

Community Development Centers (CDC) are built to be a all purpose building for the local
community. Some of the purposes envisioned are preschool, church, community center, etc. A brick making
machine has been purchased to make mortar-less bricks out of the sand and materials there. The bricks are
interlocking. Rainwater is stored in cisterns, but plans are to build wells for the community. The buildings
are also built to be able to dissipate the heat. Additionally a community garden is close by.
